1. Fokker Eindecker
Germany - 1915
The Fokker Eindecker was the first aircraft to mount a machine gun synchronized to fire through the propeller. Now the pilot just had to line up his aircraft with the enemy and fire. Introduced to the front line in August 1915, the revolutionary Eindecker and its pilots quickly achieved air superiority over the Western Front, ushering an era of dominance by the young German Air Force that came to be known as the "Fokker Scourge". Shown here is the famous E.II 37/15 flown by one of the first great Aces, Oswald Boelcke, in the fall of 1915.
